WASHINGTON DC – The Space Coast’s own Mike Haridopolos of Indian Harbor Beach in Brevard County won election to the 8th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in November and will be sworn in today in Washington DC.

Haridopolos takes the oath of office today, succeeding Bill Posey of Rockledge, retiring after eight two-year terms in the House. He won on Nov. 5 with 62.25% of the vote, defeating his Democratic opponent, attorney Sandy Kennedy, who received 37.75% of the votes.

As the Space Coast’s incoming congressman, Haridopolis has been appointed to serve on two high-profile committees — the House Science, Space and Technology Committee and the House Financial Services Committee.

The 8th District is home to the Kennedy Space Center and Patrick Space Force Base and operations of crucial commercial space industry companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin.

With his wife, Dr. Stephanie Haridopolis, and his family and friends from the Space Coast, Haridopolis will represent the 8th District, covering Florida’s Space Coast, Indian River County, and parts of east Orlando.

Haridopolos was a member of the Florida Senate from 2003 to 2012, including serving as Senate president from 2010 to 2012 and a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2003.
