BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Viera Hawks came into the Cape Coast Conference Championship with a determined mindset after defeating Eau Gallie, Palm Bay, and Melbourne in the South bracket.
Their determination paid off with a 61-51 victory over the Rockledge Raiders on the Raiders’ home court Tuesday night.
Leading the charge for the Hawks were Mark Christian, Aaron McGee, and Kamar Plain, who all scored in double figures.
Both teams started slowly, but the Hawks surged in the third quarter, doubling their first-half total of 23 points to take a 38-32 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Despite the Raiders’ efforts to chip away at the deficit in the fourth, the Hawks’ strong transition play proved too much to handle. Their defensive intensity, turning into offensive opportunities, was a key factor in securing the win.
This sets the stage for an exciting rematch as the two teams face off again this Friday, January 24, at Viera High School.
The Raiders will look to bounce back and avenge their defeat.
