BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Law enforcement and Health First officials declared an “All Clear” status after investigating a suspicious incident on Saturday evening.

Cocoa Beach police officers were called to Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital to investigate the suspicious incident, and the lockdown was rescinded at 8:50 p.m.

“This evening, what is now believed to have been a hoax “swatting call” was made to 911 with an unspecified threat made to Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital,” said Health First spokesperson Lance Skelly.

“Swatting” is when someone calls in a threat to cause an immediate law enforcement and facility response, including calling out SWAT teams.

“The response of law enforcement and our security team was swift, resulting in an immediate lockdown of our premises,” Skelly said.

“Law enforcement and security staff performed multiple sweeps of our facilities, and no credible threat was found. “Health First regularly drills for these situations and we are tremendously grateful for the immediate response of law enforcement and first responders.”
