'Which way are the new lions?'

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Sunny, cool, and crisp Chamber of Commerce weather? Check. Meerkats frolicking? Check. Lions lounging in the sun? Check. Black bears stalking and alligators … well, whatever it is they do? Check and check.
“Which way are the new lions?” That was the question on the minds of over 300 Health First Health Plans’ Medicare members who gathered at the Brevard Zoo for a morning of adventure and exploration at one of the county’s local treasures.
From the moment the gates opened, the event was set up for success, with cars already streaming into the parking lot. It provided Health First Health Plans Medicare members a chance to get a breath of fresh air, enjoy a beautiful day, and connect with their peers and community members.
Health First Health Plans hosts dozens of events—both large and small—throughout the year for its members. These events include seminars, walks, luncheons, movies, and scavenger hunts, all at no cost to members.
They provide not only valuable resources but a chance to show members how Health First Health Plans is dedicated to the health and wellness of the community..
Events like this offer a meaningful opportunity for Health First Health Plans to engage directly with members. Unlike many health insurance plans, Health First Health Plans takes an active, hands-on approach by participating in locally based events which promote wellness and connection.

The focus is not only on physical activity but also on creating positive experiences, bringing smiles to faces, fostering new friendships and encouraging movement in the fresh air. With sunshine, vitamin D and the boost of endorphins from staying active, the event embodied the true spirit of wellness.
Alma Gesine was excited to share her thoughts on Health First Health Plans event, expressing how much she appreciates the effort put into organizing activities like this. “I love it. It’s great. It shows that they care about us, and they want us to get out,” she said.
As a widow, she emphasized how events like these help her stay active and engaged. “It’s great for me because I’m a widow now, and it helped me by coming out of my shell, going out and doing things like this.”
For Gesine, the zoo is a special place which brings her joy and peace. “This is the best thing Brevard County has in my opinion and makes me feel calm.”
She also praised Health First Health Plans for supporting its members, especially in times of financial concern.
“I love my health plan, and Health First Health Plans has stepped up to the plate. Especially this year, when my co-pays went down and being on a fixed income, I appreciate that.”
Gesine wasn’t the only one who appreciated the event, and all t Health First Health Plans offers. Barbara Rubinstein also shared her enthusiasm for the day, emphasizing what a valuable resource the zoo is for the community. “Well, we love coming to the zoo. It’s a great asset to our county and we thank Health First Health Plans so much for their generosity and the fun of planning this event for us today.”

Rubinstein, a regular attendee of Health First Health Plans’ activities, noted how she enjoys taking part in the offerings.
“We try to go to most of the seminars and movie days and different events Health First Health Plans has to offer us.” More than anything, she values the time spent with loved ones. “Just enjoy being with my family and friends and just being outdoors.”
One of the highlights of her day? Finally experiencing the zoo’s new lion exhibit.
“It’s great. This is our first time seeing the lions, so I was looking forward to that.” She closed with a heartfelt appreciation for Health First Health Plans continued commitment to its members and the community. “Thanks to Health First Health Plans for all they do for us and for our county and community.”
