OBITUARY: Space Program Veteran Richard A. Brantley, 87, Passed Away at Home in Mims March 12

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Richard Allen Brantley, 87, died peacefully at his home in Mims, Florida, on March 12, 2025. He was born in St. Augustine, Florida, to Charlie and Annie Pearl Brantley.
He graduated from Ketterlinus High School in 1956 before pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florida. During his time there, he played football as a lineman and remained a devoted Gator throughout his lifetime.
In 1959, Richard married his high school sweetheart, Alice Lee, with whom he built a life and family. He dedicated his career to the Space Program, working for NASA as an engineer and Analex Space Systems as a Project Manager until his retirement.
Alongside his professional achievements, Richard also served in the National Guard, worked as a lifeguard, and officiated as a referee, embodying a spirit of service and dedication in every role he took.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Lee; his parents, Charlie and Annie Pearl; his sister, Francis “Tut” Falcon; and his brothers, Ted Gillis and Charles Brantley. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in his son, Robert Brantley; daughter-in-law, Dawn Brantley; granddaughters, Arielle and Gabrielle Brantley; and his great-grandson, Damon Barnes-Brantley.
Richard will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his career, and his passion for the Florida Gators. His presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, Richard requested donations to the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida or the American Cancer Society. A private luncheon for the immediate family will be planned later.
