BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A Brevard County woman is facing criminal charges after allegedly pointing a gun at two young boys who were fishing near her backyard.
According to the law enforcement, 59-year-old Donna Elkins confronted the boys, ordering them to the ground and keeping them there for several minutes.
The situation ended when her husband came outside and took the weapon from her.
The incident unfolded on Friday, March 28, when Elkins called 911 to report two boys fishing behind her home on Royston Drive in Melbourne. During the call, she reportedly admitted to scaring them and making them lie on the ground.
According to Deputies, the boys said they were fishing when Elkins approached them with what was later determined to be a long black pellet gun, aimed it at them, and allegedly threatened to “blow their heads off.” Terrified, they remained on the ground for about five minutes until her husband intervened and disarmed her.
Two other children who witnessed the encounter gave statements that matched the boys’ account.
While the boys were not physically harmed, Elkins was taken into custody and booked into the Brevard County jail on two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of false imprisonment.
Investigators determined that the boys had been fishing on a peninsula about 30 feet from Elkins’ property line in an area that is owned by a community development district.
