Fontroy Was defensive line coach for the minutemen during 2024 season

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School athletic director Ted Kimmey has named Branden Fontroy as the defensive coordinator after spending last season as the defensive line coach for the Minutemen.
Fontroy was named the new defensive coordinator after long-time Brevard County football coach Rick Dorminy retired. Fontroy spent this past season as the D-line coach for Cocoa Beach and will now run the entire defensive unit for the Minutemen.
Fontroy’s coaching history began in 2017, when he coached youth football with the Melbourne Ducks for three years and with Satellite Beach Pop Warner for a year.
After several years coaching Pop Warner, in 2021, Fontroy moved up the ladder and got an opportunity to coach Satellite High School’s JV defense.
In 2022, Fontroy returned to his alma mater, Eau Gallie, and assisted the defensive line for a couple of years. Returning to Eau Gallie was a full-circle moment for Fontroy, and he took advantage of the moment, gaining more experience.
He was then offered the defensive line coach job at Cocoa Beach High in 2024 and seized the opportunity.
Now heading into the 2025 football season, Coach Fontroy looks to get the Cocoa Beach Minutemen back to their defensive prowess.
In the past two seasons, the Minutemen have given up 27 points and 22 points per game, resulting in a combined 7-13 record. Winning games is not all about defense; however, the saying goes, “defense wins championships,” or at least it puts you in a position to.
Looking back to 22-23, Cocoa Beach went 6-3 and gave up only 18 points a game. The 2022 season also marks the last playoff appearance by the Minutemen.
Cocoa Beach will be returning seven starters from last season and is still very young on the defensive side of the ball.
