BREVARD COUNTY • KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLORIDA – SpaceX successfully launched 23 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit Monday night, including 13 equipped with cutting-edge Direct-to-Cell capabilities, in a mission that further advances the company’s ambitious global connectivity goals.
The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center at 10:34 p.m. ET, precisely at the opening of the launch window. The launch proceeded smoothly, with the first stage separating as planned and executing a pinpoint landing on the droneship A Shortfall of Gravitas, stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
This flight marked the maiden voyage for the first-stage booster used in the mission, adding another successful chapter to SpaceX’s expanding fleet of reusable rockets.
The mission is particularly notable for deploying 13 satellites with Direct-to-Cell capabilities, which are designed to enable direct connectivity between standard mobile phones and Starlink satellites. This technology aims to significantly enhance mobile coverage, particularly in remote and underserved regions around the world.
