BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA — The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team finished 19th overall at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Newton, Kansas.
The Titans finished the tournament by shooting a 305 in the final round.
“Tough week for the men’s team,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said. “The guys put a lot of work into this week and it was a struggle from Day 1 and the guys handled it like adults every step of the way.”
After posting their worst round of the season in the first round of the tournament, the Titans were better for most of the week but could not make much of a move in the tournament.
Sophomore Hugo Griesheimer shot even par on the back nine to finish 3-over 75 and finished tied for 25th overall at 9-over for the tournament.
Masen McKain shot 2-over 74 in the final round as he was even par on the front nine and had five birdies and seven bogeys in the round. He finished the tournament 16-over while Danny Byers shot 5-over for the second straight round in Kansas. Horace Pennix had a 79 and Micke Laurelli shot an 80 at Sand Creek Station.
“Hugo and Masen showed signs of good play but we never put four scores together,” Howell said. “The course was set up fair for everyone and Thursday’s first round was the only normal Kansas windy day.”
