The 3 Best Free Activities in the Space Coast Area (+ 2 Cheap Ones)
By Space Coast Daily // May 25, 2025

Looking for things to do around the Space Coast without completely emptying your wallet? In this gorgeous area, there’s plenty to do for free or at least very cheaply, especially for nature lovers. Besides the obvious, like visiting Cocoa Beach and other beautiful beaches along the coast, we’ve found some other interesting stops to put on your list. In this guide, we’ll be looking at the 3 best free things to do and 2 cheap activities to note this summer.
1. Digitally Detox at a Nature Sanctuary
The Space Coast Area is full of sanctuaries well worth exploring, including the Turkey Creek Sanctuary, the Enchanted Forest Sanctuary, and the Manatee Sanctuary Park.
These little sanctuaries provide the perfect place to take a relaxing hike, reconnect with nature, and just enjoy the beautiful sights of untouched nature – and maybe even spot a manatee or two. Since there are quite a few of them, you could easily spend the whole day just exploring different wildlife and nature sanctuaries.
2. Take Advantage of the Fast Internet
While our first idea was to digitally detox, the second proposes taking full advantage of the technology you do have access to. As they say, balance is key.
No matter where in the world you are, digital entertainment is plentiful. And with Florida high on the list of the states with the fastest internet in the US, the Space Coast area is the perfect place to take advantage of it.
You can play casino games for free on your phone at a sweepstakes casino, watch the latest videos on YouTube, or play an online multiplayer game. Call an old friend, take a course, or even look for ideas for weekend or vacation plans – as you, clearly, are already well aware!
3. Volunteer at the World’s Second-Biggest Loggerhead Turtle Preservation Site
Do you have a passion for animals or sea life? Then, a stop at the Sea Turtle Preservation Society, home to the second-biggest group of Loggerhead sea turtles in the world, is an idea.
Simply visit this preservation site to see the turtles, volunteer to help save turtles, or take a guided hike and get all your questions answered by an experienced guide. You’ll learn lots about the little creatures and how to help keep them safe, all while spotting possibly the cutest creatures in the sea. Beyond loggerhead turtles, the Sea Turtle Preservation Society in Indialantic also cares for and protects Hawksbill turtles, green turtles, and leatherback sea turtles.
4. Journey Through the Dinosaur Store
For as little as $28 for adults and $24 for kids, you will get full access to The Dinosaur Store, including the prehistoric museum and the interactive adventure zone.
This place is incredibly special for those fascinated by dinosaurs, and really, who isn’t? Here you’ll find a museum full of information and real fossils of dinosaurs – you can even purchase a real dinosaur tooth, although these types of souvenirs are, unsurprisingly, quite expensive.
The Dinosaur Store is known for having the most elaborate array of fossils in the world, so you definitely don’t want to miss it.
5. Enjoy a Movie at the Satellite Beach Cinemas
If you’re ready for a cozy movie night (or movie morning, or movie afternoon), consider Satellite Beach Cinemas. Standard tickets for adults are just above a ten-dollar bill, and tickets for kids are just under, making this a budget-friendly activity even if it’s not completely free.
Here you can catch the latest movies in one of the four auditoriums. Reviews are calling it a cozy place, and describing the atmosphere as “family-owned,” especially mentioning how friendly the staff is, and praising the comfy leather seats.
