SHERIFF IVEY: we have zero tolerance for Drunk Drivers in Brevard County

SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: You know, folks, no matter how many times we give great advice, some folks refuse to listen and then can’t for the life of them understand why they end up behind bars. Take Kristy McCoy, for example, (above), who earlier this week found out precisely what happens when you don’t listen to the excellent advice we give on what happens if you drink and drive in Brevard County. You know, folks, no matter how many times we give great advice, some folks just refuse to listen and then can’t for the life of them understand why they end up behind bars.

Take Kristy McCoy, for example, who earlier this week found out exactly what happens when you don’t listen to the great advice we give on what happens if you drink and drive in Brevard County.

What had happened was our Deputies received a call regarding a vehicle on someone’s property, and the driver appearing to be inebriated while claiming they were looking for someone.

Once Deputies arrived, they found the vehicle running and still in reverse with the driver, McCoy, appearing confused and slow to answer them, while also having difficulty turning the car off.

While that is obviously very concerning, it’s not a shock, especially when you hear what her blood alcohol level was.

Once McCoy finally exited the vehicle and agreed to do Field Sobriety Exercises, you can guess how things went as she demonstrated multiple signs of impairment, which earned her a free ride to Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge, where she got a chance to take a breathalyzer.

McCoy is apparently an overachiever as she scored a 0.221 and a 0.207, which is almost 3 times the legal limit!

Now, for most, that would be one heck of a day, but not for McCoy, as while at the booking desk, she asked to be able to retrieve some needed numbers from her phone.

Of course, she was told she could access the phone for the specific purpose of retrieving the numbers, but then decided to use the phone to call a friend, as apparently she thought she was on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire!”

As a result, McCoy was not only charged with DUI, she got an additional charge of Introduction of Contraband Into A County Jail.

Folks, I’ve said it before and obviously I need to say it again…don’t drink and drive, and if you can’t follow that simple rule, then you would be wise not to do it in Brevard County, where we have zero tolerance for Drunk Drivers.

There’s no excuse to put yourself behind the wheel of a motor vehicle after you’ve been drinking, because I promise you the only place you’ll end up is behind bars!!
