City officials: Will promote a healthier, cleaner environment

BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA — The City of Satellite Beach has announced a proposed ordinance aimed at restricting smoking and vaping in public outdoor spaces.
Ordinance No. 1271 will be considered during a public hearing scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 565 Cassia Boulevard, Satellite Beach.
According to the proposal, the ordinance would amend Chapter 6 of the Satellite Beach City Code by expanding its title to include smoking and vaping.
It seeks to update Section 6-1 concerning drinking on city property, while establishing a new Section 6-3 that explicitly prohibits smoking and vaping in public parks and on public beaches.
Additionally, Section 6-4 would create associated penalties for violations of these provisions, and penalties for drinking alcohol on city property.
City officials have indicated that the ordinance is designed to promote a healthier, cleaner environment in community recreation areas. Residents and interested parties are invited to review the proposed ordinance at City Hall and attend the public hearing to share their input.
The City advises that individuals who wish to appeal decisions made at the hearing should be aware that they will need a verbatim record of the proceedings, including any testimony or evidence presented, for their appeal to be considered valid.
