BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Following a roof collapse caused by severe storms, the Joseph N. Davis Community Center in Melbourne has been closed until further notice.
This closure has prompted the relocation of several key programs and activities to ensure that community members can continue to access vital services without interruption.
City officials confirmed that the roof of the facility, located at 2547 Bruce D. Buggs Street, suffered significant damage during the storms.
While structural engineers and insurance representatives assess the extent of the destruction, city staff are working swiftly to protect the building’s interior and determine a timeline for repairs.
In the interim, two major programs serving local seniors will move to the Eddie Lee Taylor, Sr. Community Center, located at 3316 Monroe Street, beginning Monday, August 11:

Additionally, the Back to School Backpack Giveaway originally scheduled for August 2 at the Joseph N. Davis Community Center has also been relocated to the Eddie Lee Taylor, Sr. Community Center. All other scheduled events and rentals at the damaged facility have been temporarily canceled.
