BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring Tropical Storm Gabrielle, which continues to move northwestward in the Atlantic Ocean.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the system carried maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour and was tracking at 14 miles per hour.
While current forecasts show Gabrielle remaining over open waters in the central Atlantic, emergency officials in Brevard County note that this is the heart of hurricane season, and the storm will be monitored closely for any shifts in its projected path.
Alongside Gabrielle, the National Hurricane Center is also observing a tropical disturbance near the Cabo Verde Islands. This system, although disorganized and given only a 20 percent chance of development over the next seven days, serves as another reminder of the active conditions across the basin.
The disturbance is not projected to pose an immediate concern for Florida, but forecasters caution that these systems can evolve as they cross the Atlantic.
For now, Brevard County is not under any alerts or watches related to Gabrielle or the tropical disturbance.
However, county officials continue to encourage residents to review their hurricane preparedness plans and stay alert to updated advisories as conditions in the Atlantic remain active.
