Eastern Florida State College Women’s Tennis Team Competes at ITA JUCO Regional Championships

BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s tennis team competed in the ITA JUCO Women’s Florida Regional Championships in Tampa.

The doubles team of Marina Sanso and Maria Mateos Melian reached the finals, but fell to Hillsborough Community College 8-1 in the final.

The duo were up 5-0 in the first match before the Saint Petersburg College team withdrew and then an injury to a Hillsborough CC player sent them to the semifinals. Then they received another bye into the final.

In singles, Sanso won her first match of the day against St. Petersburg’s Stefani Georgieva. But lost in the quarterfinals.

Sophia Blackwell lost her first match against Hillsborough Community College’s Jasiczek Salomea Malgorzata and then won her first consolation round match 8-4 to advance to the consolation round semifinals. Blackwell battled but lost in the semifinals.

The women’s tennis team will travel to Palm Beach Atlantic for a match on Oct. 10.
