BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The City of Melbourne has completed construction of approximately one mile of sidewalk along NASA Boulevard from Harry Sutton Road to just east of Gateway Drive.

In addition to the sidewalk, two existing bus stops were retrofitted with ADA-compliant boarding and alighting pads and connections to new sidewalks, which provide a fully accessible pedestrian path.

In addition, countdown pedestrian signals and new crosswalks were retrofitted into the signalized intersection at Grumman Place and NASA Boulevard for added safety.

The City of Melbourne received federal funding of approximately $1.4 million through the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization and Local Agency Program administered by the Florida Department of Transportation.

The NASA Boulevard sidewalk project is just one segment in an ongoing effort by the City to improve pedestrian safety citywide.

Another ongoing project, which involves adding 1.2 miles of sidewalk and traffic calming devices to Lipscomb Street, Monroe Street, and University Boulevard, as well as other pedestrian safety features for students walking to and from Stone Magnet Middle School, is about 75% complete.

Additionally, construction is also underway on another project that will add 1.34 miles of sidewalk and a half-mile-long pedestrian trail along Dairy Road, Florida Avenue, and University Boulevard.
