MIAMI, FLORIDA – Florida leaders have approved a prime downtown Miami site for the future Donald J. Trump Presidential Library, paving the way for the 45th and 47th  president’s legacy to be formally enshrined in South Florida.

On Tuesday, Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet unanimously authorized the transfer of a 2.63-acre parcel valued at $66 million to the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation, Inc.

The foundation, managed by Eric Trump, Michael Boulos, and attorney James Kiley, will oversee the project.

The property, currently an employee parking lot for Miami-Dade College, sits adjacent to the city’s historic Freedom Tower on Biscayne Boulevard. The site’s proximity to one of Miami’s most recognizable landmarks adds both symbolic weight and local visibility to the project.

“This will be the greatest Presidential Library ever built, honoring the greatest President our Nation has ever known,” Eric Trump wrote on X, promising a structure that would transform the city’s skyline. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez echoed the enthusiasm, calling the decision “a proud day for Miami” and describing the future library as a monument to ambition and leadership.

Under Florida’s constitution, the transfer of state-owned property must be approved by a panel of statewide officials, including the governor, attorney general, chief financial officer, and commissioner of agriculture. Earlier this year, DeSantis signed legislation preventing local governments from blocking the development of presidential libraries, a move widely seen as aimed at clearing obstacles for Trump’s plans.

When completed, the Trump library would be the smallest in terms of acreage of any modern presidential library. For comparison, Gerald Ford’s museum in Michigan spans six acres, while Barack Obama’s presidential center in Illinois is planned for more than 19 acres.

Construction must commence within five years, as per the terms of the transfer. The foundation is expected to build both a library and a museum to house Trump’s presidential archives, artifacts, and exhibits.

Presidential libraries, overseen by the National Archives and Records Administration, serve as both historical repositories and public museums.

The Trump library will join a network of institutions across the country, from the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston to the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California.

The choice of location is not without historical resonance. The adjacent Freedom Tower, completed in 1925, became a symbol of refuge for Cuban immigrants fleeing communism in the 1960s and now serves as a museum operated by Miami Dade College.

With the land deal finalized, Trump’s foundation now faces the task of transforming one of Miami’s most visible downtown lots into a presidential landmark — one supporters say will rival any before it.
