BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – The City of Titusville has declared a Local State of Emergency in response to significant flash flooding that impacted the area on October 27.
Mayor Dan Connors signed the declaration at 10 a.m., allowing the city to expedite purchasing processes and other administrative measures needed for emergency response and recovery.
City officials also announced that certain building and permitting fees may be waived for residents whose properties were damaged in the floods.
City crews are continuing to address storm-related issues, including an incident at the South Street Lift Station. Around 12:30 p.m., an electrical short temporarily stopped the pumps, resulting in an overflow of approximately 12,000 gallons that reached the Indian River Lagoon.
Sewer Field Operations staff quickly restarted the system, and ground contact areas are being treated. The city confirmed it will file the required notices with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the State Watch Office.
To assist residents preparing for additional rainfall, self-fill sandbags are available at the City’s Singleton Public Works Facility. Meanwhile, the City of Titusville is working with the American Red Cross to provide shelter for those displaced by the flooding. The designated shelter is located at the First United Methodist Church of Titusville.
Officials continue to monitor weather conditions and urge residents to remain cautious as cleanup and recovery efforts continue throughout the week.
