BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne residents are being reminded that natural Christmas trees may be placed curbside for pickup as part of regular yard waste collection services, provided they meet specific size and weight requirements.

Officials said tree sections must not exceed eight feet in length or weigh more than 50 pounds to be eligible for collection.

Before setting trees out for pickup, residents are advised to remove all tinsel, ornaments, lights, and other decorations. Collection crews will only accept trees that are free of any non-natural materials.

In addition to preparation requirements, proper placement is essential to ensure safe and efficient collection. Items set out for pickup must be easily accessible to collection personnel and equipment and must not create visual or physical obstructions for drivers, bicyclists, or pedestrians.

Residents are also reminded not to place Christmas trees or other yard waste within 15 feet of fire hydrants or in locations that block streets, sidewalks, gutters, drainage structures, stormwater inlets, or water meters. Trees and other materials should never be placed in the street or roadway.

Officials said following these guidelines will help crews complete collections safely while maintaining clear access for emergency services and public travel routes.
