BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A newly released video shows the dramatic moment a small aircraft plummeted from the sky and collided with a passing vehicle on a busy section of Interstate 95 in Brevard County.

The footage captures the plane descending rapidly before striking the car, startling drivers along the crowded highway.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the midair emergency and subsequent crash.

The video, which has now circulated widely, reveals just how sudden the descent was as the aircraft appeared to lose altitude moments before impact.

The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. Dec. 8 in the southbound lanes of I-95 just south of State Road 520 near Cocoa.

The FAA said a Beechcraft 95-C55 Baron, N95KC, developed engine trouble and attempted an emergency landing on the interstate, colliding with a 2023 Toyota Camry before coming to rest partially on a concrete barrier.

The driver of the Camry, a 57-year-old woman from Melbourne, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Viera Hospital for treatment, officials said.

According to Brevard County Fire Rescue, the aircraft is owned by Tailwinds Flying and operates out of Merritt Island Airport. Federal authorities said the pilot reported engine problems moments before the plane touched down on the highway.

Traffic through the area slowed to a crawl for hours as troopers shut down the inside and center southbound lanes while emergency crews worked the scene and investigators examined the wreckage.

The Federal Aviation Administration is leading the investigation into the incident, with the Florida Highway Patrol conducting a parallel probe.

Monday’s crash marked the second time in about a month that a small aircraft has made an emergency landing on a major Brevard County roadway.

On Nov. 7, a plane landed without reported injuries on the grass along State Road 407 between I-95 and State Road 528.

Also, last August, a small plane crashed in a wooded area just west of Space Coast Regional Airport and just north of Shepard Drive.

The I-95 incident was also the second emergency plane landing in Central Florida on Dec. 8. Earlier in the day, a Cessna 172 made an emergency landing in DeLand near Jacobs Road and Plymouth Avenue with two people aboard. No injuries were reported in that case, and the FAA is investigating.
