Space Coast Daily’s Friday Night Locker Room team takes a look at the Winter sports seasons as basketball, soccer are already underway and wrestling is just beginning. The Fall sports season brought a lot of excitement to the space coast and several teams in different sports are still competing for state championships.

Fall Sports Recap

The Tigers won their Regional Final contest with Bradford last Friday and will now head to Cardinal Mooney for a chance to compete for their fourth straight state championship.

The 2025 high school football season is slowly coming to an end, and has already ended for every Brevard County school except the three-time defending state champs, the Cocoa Tigers.

The Viera high school boys’ Golf team finished fourth in the state tournament led by Seniors, Alexander Bercea and Ryan Woodward. The girls’ finished eighth led by Kansas commit, Hannah Hall (above), who individually placed third.

The Merritt Island Mustangs volleyball team reached the state championship and came up just short to North Broward, 3-2. An all around impressive season that Head Coach Angie Patrick pick up win No. 500 of her career and the team finished 29-3 on the season.

Holy Trinity’s Evan Spreitzer (above) took home a state championship victory in Cross Country while West Shores’ Selah Vignier, became the first in school history to win an individual state championship.

Winter Sports Begin

Through the first two weeks of the basketball season it is the Palm Bay Pirate boys’ who are undefeated at 5-0 and look to have a strong team going forward. Last year it was the Viera Hawks who ran away with the Cape Coast Conference title, those two teams will face off tonight, Tuesday December 2, at Palm Bay High School.

That fares to be a matchup between two of the top squads in Brevard County.

Through the first two weeks of the basketball season it is the Palm Bay Pirate boys’ who are undefeated at 5-0 and look to have a strong team going forward.

On the girls’ side Titusville and West Shore have started out 3-0 while, the Bayside Bears have dominated in two of their three games. Last season it was the Palm Bay Pirates who took home the Cape Coast Conference championship and the 4A State championship, but it has been a tough start to the season for the Pirates.

West Shore’s girls’ soccer team has started the season at 5-0 and Viera’s girls’ have started out the season  5-3 season, which is a result of a difficult schedule. The Rockledge Raiders have started well at 4-1, and Melbourne Central Catholic at 4-2 to begin the 2025-26′ soccer season.

Viera and Melbourne boys’ soccer team have both started the season with confidence,  no losses on the record yet for either squad.

Two ties for Viera and Melbourne with one tie being there head to head matchup looks like both teams will be strong contenders going though the season.
