MIAMI, FLORIDA – The city was still half-asleep when the first heartbeat of the race echoed through downtown Miami over the weekend.
Streetlights shimmered off Biscayne Bay, sneakers tapped nervously against pavement, and somewhere near the start line stood Pedro Sanchez and Joshua Marrero – two Eastern Florida State College runners ready to test everything they had worked for.
For them, the Life Time Miami Marathon wasn’t just 26.2 miles. It was a moment.
As the starting horn cut through the morning air, Pedro and Joshua surged forward with thousands of runners from every corner of the world. Palm trees blurred past. Bridges rose and fell. Cheers poured in from sidewalks packed with strangers who somehow felt like family.
Every mile brought heat, doubt, and determination-but neither runner backed down.

Their presence on Miami’s iconic course was no accident. Just months earlier, both athletes earned their EFSC runners’ pass at the Track Shack Celebration of Running 5K, an early proving ground that hinted at bigger stages ahead.
Joshua Marrero delivered a breakout performance, slicing through the course with focus and speed.
Pedro Sanchez, equally relentless, showed grit that spoke louder than any stopwatch. Together, they represented a new generation of runners-disciplined, driven, and deeply connected to the spirit of the sport.
Mid-race, when legs began to feel heavy, and the sun climbed higher, it wasn’t medals or finish times that carried them forward—it was community. The shared nods between runners. The volunteers are shouting names. The belief that no one was alone out there.
As Joshua later reflected, “The best part of being in the race is meeting people from different walks of life, cheering each other on, and lifting one another up.”
Those words played out in real time on Miami’s streets. Every mile marker became a reminder that running is bigger than competition-it’s a connection.

When Pedro Sanchez and Joshua Marrero crossed the finish line, they carried more than personal accomplishment. They carried the pride of their college, the momentum of their early success, and the quiet confidence that this was only the beginning.
Their journey, from a 5K celebration to one of the most vibrant marathons in the country, stands as proof that passion, persistence, and purpose can take you anywhere.
Now, with Miami behind them and lessons etched into every stride, the EFSC runners are already looking ahead.
Their next challenge awaits at the Orlando Track Shack 10K on March 28, where Pedro and Joshua will once again toe the line, stronger, wiser, and fueled by the belief that every race is another chapter in a much bigger story.
In a city known for energy and resilience, two young runners left their mark-not just with their strides, but with their story. Because at the Life Time Miami Marathon, it’s not just about how fast you run. It’s about who you become along the way.
