BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Former Rockledge High School star linebacker DJ McCormick has committed to South Carolina State, continuing his collegiate football career after spending the 2025 season at South Florida.
McCormick, a 2024 signee, appeared with the Bulls last season after initially beginning his college career at UCF, where he enrolled early and participated in spring football drills before later transferring. He will retain four years of eligibility moving forward.
A highly productive defender during his prep career, McCormick starred for Rockledge High School, where he totaled 318 tackles and nine interceptions across three varsity seasons.
As a senior in 2023, he recorded 114 tackles, 2.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception, helping lead the Raiders to the second round of the FHSAA Class 3S playoffs.
He was named to the 2023 All-District 12 team by Brevard County coaches and earned All–Cape Coast Conference honors in 2022.
During his junior season, McCormick tallied 119 tackles, four forced fumbles, three interceptions, three pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, and two sacks. His breakout sophomore campaign in 2021 saw him collect 97 tackles and five interceptions.
Coming out of high school, McCormick held more than 20 Division I offers and originally chose UCF over programs such as USF, Indiana, and West Virginia.
He now heads to South Carolina State, where he will look to make an immediate impact with the Bulldogs’ defense.
