FHP: Driver Killed After SUV Crashes Into Tree, Catches Fire on North Wickham Road

Florida Highway Patrol says the vehicle ran off the roadway near Forest Lake Avenue before striking a sign and tree Wednesday morning

A driver was killed late Wednesday morning after a crash along North Wickham Road in Brevard County that ended with the vehicle catching fire, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A driver was killed late Wednesday morning after a crash along North Wickham Road in Brevard County that ended with the vehicle catching fire, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 11:46 a.m. on March 5 near the intersection of North Wickham Road and Forest Lake Avenue.

Investigators say a 2024 Ford Escape was traveling westbound on North Wickham Road just west of Forest Lake Avenue when, for unknown reasons, the driver failed to maintain the travel lane and ran off the roadway to the right.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the SUV then struck a traffic control sign and a tree. After the impact, the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim. The Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office will notify investigators once the driver has been positively identified and next of kin are notified.

The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
