BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – After reaching the final four a year ago, the Holy Trinity girls basketball team is back in the state semifinals — and this time hoping for a different result.

The Bayside girls basketball team has been a story of destiny all season and now has reached the final four with a chance to compete for a state championship.

Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity will face Evangelical Christian on March 6, at 1:00 p.m. from the CSI Companies Court at the UNF Arena in Jacksonville, for a chance to play for the Class 2A state championship.

At 19-12, the Tigers’ record does not resemble that of a team that dominated the season. However, their strength of schedule stacks up against some of the premier girls high school basketball programs in the nation.

After starting the season 3-9 through their first 12 games, Holy Trinity caught fire.

The Tigers have won nine of their last 10 games and have claimed their three state playoff victories by an average margin of 50 points. Rolling through the postseason, Holy Trinity is playing with confidence — and credits its early-season competition for preparing the team for this moment.

Just one year ago, the Tigers reached the Class 2A state semifinals but fell to Providence School, 61-44.

Last season, the Palm Bay Pirates were the only other Brevard County girls team to reach the state semifinals and went on to win the Class 4A state championship over American Heritage.

This year, Holy Trinity is leaning on its experience and a “three-headed monster” of Leila Bryant, Gianna Conklin-Jones and Kylie Green. The trio leads the team in every major statistical category and will all return next season. Conklin-Jones will be a senior, while Bryant, a freshman, and Green, a sophomore, will continue building their legacies with the Tigers.

Holy Trinity will face Evangelical Christian on March 6 at 1 p.m. at CSI Companies Court at UNF Arena in Jacksonville for a chance to advance to the Class 2A state championship game.

Bayside

Bayside will take on Bartram Trail on March 12, at 3:00 p.m. from the CSI Companies Court at the UNF Arena in Jacksonville, for an opportunity at their first state championship in program history.

Last season, the Bayside Bears finished 20-8 but were defeated by Bloomingdale in the second round of the playoffs.

This year, the Bears were determined to return to the postseason and finish what they started. They earned revenge against Bloomingdale in the regional final, securing a 36-31 victory.

It marks the first time in program history that Bayside has reached the state semifinals. The Bears are now seeking their first state championship.

Like Holy Trinity, Bayside built a challenging early-season schedule to prepare for the FHSAA playoffs. While the Bears have not won by large margins, they have displayed grit and toughness throughout the postseason.

Bayside is led by sisters Carleyssia Wallace and Ellieyana Wallace, both averaging 10 or more points per game. However, the Bears will need key contributions from role players to secure another victory and advance to the Class 6A state championship game.

Bayside will face Bartram Trail on March 12 at 3 p.m. at CSI Companies Court at UNF Arena in Jacksonville for a chance to make program history.
