BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A 64-year-old Merritt Island man was arrested after deputies say he jumped into an Amazon delivery vehicle with the driver still inside and attempted to move the vehicle during an incident on Feb. 25.

According to authorities, Joseph Baldi, 64, of Merritt Island, was taken into custody and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and kidnapping to commit or facilitate the commission of a felony.

Investigators say the incident occurred while an Amazon delivery driver was working in the area. Baldi allegedly entered the delivery vehicle while the driver was still inside and attempted to move the vehicle. The driver was reportedly forced to remain in the vehicle during the incident, leading investigators to pursue the kidnapping-related charge.

Deputies responded and Baldi was arrested following the incident.

Grand theft of a motor vehicle is a felony offense under Florida law, and kidnapping charges can carry significant prison sentences depending on the circumstances of the case.

Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the encounter or whether anyone was injured. The case remains under investigation.
