Dr. Richard Harrison Cited For Service In U.S. Army

BEEVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – First Choice Medical Group’s Dr. Richard Harrison has an impressive military service record, having served his country from 2002 to 2013.
He was with the AMEDD Professional Management Command of the U.S. Army Reserves from 2002 to 2008, and served the U.S. Army Medical Corps as an orthopedic Surgeon at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, from 2008 to 2009.
Dr. Harrison was awarded the Bronze Star for “superb performance and untiring work ethic during combat missions, contributing significantly to the immediate medical care and success of the unit mission” while treating special operations troops.
DEPLOYED WITH U.S. SPECIAL OPERATIONS
As an officer in the Medical Corps, Dr. Harrison served as the Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, and was deployed with the U.S. Special Operations Command as part of Operation Enduring Freedom to Afghanistan in 2009 and again in 2011.
After receiving a B.S. in Chemical Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with Laboratory Operations from University College, London, in the summer of 1993, Dr. Harrison received his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine in 2001.
EXTENSIVE SURGICAL TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery with additional sub-specialty board certifications in Hand Surgery and Sports Medicine, Dr. Harrison joined the staff of First Choice Medical Group in 2013 following a four month deployment to Kaiserslautern, Germany as Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves Medical Corp.
Dr. Harrison performed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency from 2001 to 2006 at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, followed by his Hand and Upper Limb Fellowship at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Medical Center in New York; Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, Australia; and a Congenital Hand Fellowship at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas Texas from 2006 to 2008.
In his spare time, Dr. Harrison, 43, is a private pilot, PADI-certified scuba diver, distance runner – and is a proud Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
