BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Rockledge High continued the ‘ROCK Rookies Day’ tradition with their new Freshmen – The Class of 2021 on the second day of school last Friday.
“The new Raiders are immersed in the family and tradition that is Rockledge High School and what it means to be a Raider,” said Rockledge High Principal Vickie Hickey.
“The goal is to let the new 9th graders know they are home.”
Hickey said that the new students were able to set goals and learn about their interests, participate in a campus scavenger hunt so they know where everything is. They also learn about all of the clubs and organizations as well as high academic and behavior expectations.
“It takes an amazing group of teachers and even former Raiders to provide the incredible experience for these kids,” said Hickey.
Teachers Leslie Shinault, Angela Randall, Beth Scarborough, Sandra Schooley, Kelly Rose, Mike Inman, Christine Kearns and Alicia Gaines put in hours of planning to make the day memorable.
“Special thanks to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office for helping share Internet and Social Media Safety messages, the RHS Raider Regiment under the direction of Steven Johnson, Raider Graduate Jackie Mijuskovic for her inspiring message, and all of the teachers and staff for their flexibility and support,” said Hickey.
“Special thanks also goes to retired Raider Marlyn Foell for contributing her time and artistic skill to the amazing ROCK Painting Event. She is going to make a mosaic for the Class of 2021 from the ROCKS they painted.”
