BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – After leading Florida Tech to its first conference victory of the season, quarterback Mike Diliello has garnered both the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week Awards presented by Mammoth Sports Construction.
This is the second straight week that the redshirt-freshman has been named the GSC Freshman of the Week and his first being tabbed the top offensive player. He is the third Panther to win both awards in the same week, joining Mark Cato (2014) and Antwuan Haynes (2015).
Diliello had another strong week, in just his second career start, helping the Panthers post a dominant 44-10 victory over perennial GSC power West Georgia on Saturday evening at Panther Stadium, Tech’s first home game of the season.
The Pembroke Pines-product completed 17-of-29 attempts for 227 yards and two touchdowns through the air as well as ran for 94 yards and two scores on the ground. His rushing total set a program record for most yards by a quarterback in a single game.
Diliello is the Panthers’ leading rusher through four games with 221 yards and six touchdowns on 44 carries. He has also completed 57.8% of his passes for 570 yards and four touchdowns.
Fans can catch Diliello and the Panthers at home again this Saturday, Oct. 5, as Florida Tech welcomes non-conference foe Fort Valley State to Panther Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
