BREVARD COUNTY • SUNTREE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team shot the best round of the day as they finished in third place at the Titan Winter Invitational Tuesday at Suntree Country Club.

The Titans shot 294 in the final round to move up into third place at 893. Central Alabama won the tournament, shooting 296 in the final round to finish the tournament at 886. Southeastern University shot a 295 to finish at 891.

“We were consistent with the second round today, the first round played incredibly difficult. Everybody struggled with it and we had a couple of bad holes that sabotaged us,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said. “We hung in there but it is the same old story, too many unforced errors.”

Eastern Florida State College’s Campbell Kennedy finished tied for fifth overall with Central Alabama’s James Baker at 2-over for the tournament.

“He did a nice job, it has been a while since he competed and he stepped right in and I know he would have liked to have played better today but that was good for him,” Howell said.

Nick Miller and Adam Vermut tied for 12 overall at 9-over as Vermut shot even par 72 and Miller finished at 1-over.

Bryan Hernandez shot a 74 including a 2 on the par 4 13th hole and Masen McKain had a 78.

“We are close, for the first one of the year, you always measure where you are at and what you have to get better at and it is just basics, nothing I am worried about other than being sloppy, that is what bothers me,” Howell said.

The second team placed sixth overall as Hugo Griesheimer shot a 75 to finish tied for 22nd, Malik Laghjichi had an 80 and tied for 28th, Adam Ward finished with an 83 and Jamie Chepenik had an 85.

“They are working hard, when you are in the second group nobody wants to be there, they are all trying to move up but they are working hard and the more they work hard and compete, the better they will get,” Howell said.

The men’s golf team will compete in the Gulf Shores Invitational on Feb. 12 and 13.
