BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Look closely and you can see (and hear) it. The emotion. The appreciation. The renewed hope. The gratitude.
Brevard County’s Health First celebrates National Doctors’ Day each year – a tradition dating back to 1933 when Charles B. Almond, MD, initiated the first celebration in Winder, Georgia.
Since then, it has grown into a national event recognized and celebrated by health care organizations and institutions across the country. On October 30, 1990, President George H.W. Bush designated March 30 as “National Doctors’ Day.”
This year, Health First wanted to mark the occasion with a little different flair – surprising some physicians with letters of appreciation shared by their patients.
“We wanted to capture the essence of the special doctor-patient bond that so often goes unrecognized or unappreciated,” said Jennifer MacKendree, System Director of Marketing for Health First.
“In the course of their hectic day-to-day work, physicians see so many patients and deal with so many different challenges, we wanted to take a few minutes to simply slow down and enjoy the essence of that heart-felt appreciation. We’re grateful to our providers for allowing us inside these special moments to capture their feelings, and we are also thankful to our patients who entrust Health First with their care – and for taking the time to write and share their stories.”
“We at Health First are so grateful for the selfless work our providers do each day to improve the health and wellness of our patients and community,” said Dr. Timothy Laird, Health First Medical Group Chief Medical Officer.
“There is no better reward for a physician to know and hear their work, dedication and sacrifice is appreciated by our patients. These letters and the heartfelt reactions they garner so perfectly exemplify the reason we celebrate the physician/patient relationship each year.”
