BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College men’s golfer Nick Miller was named the SwingU NJCAA Player of the Month on Wednesday.
The sophomore from Orlando had a big month of March and is joined by Luke Clanton of Florida State (Division I), Drew Coble of Grand Valley State (Division II), Brandon Jones of Fayetteville State (HBCU), Avery Stansell of Rhodes (Division III), Kolby Shackelford of OUAZ (NAIA) and Dillon Dean of South Mountain (NJCAA Division II) as players of the month for March in partnership by SwingU and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
“That was a surprise to me, he told me at the range that I was nominated for it. It was a shock, I was pretty excited just to be nominated,” Miller said.
Miller made 11 birdies, including five in the final round to win the Glenlakes Invitation with a four-under 213 on March 12. The victory was the first of the season for Miller.
“All year I have been striving to finish in the top five and that just lets me know that I can do it, I can play with these guys and my game is at the same level as the guys I am playing with every week,” said Miller who has shot par or better in five of his last six rounds.
In their match against NCAA Division III Hamilton College, Miller helped the Titans halve the Continentals 4.5-4.5.
“I feel like I switched my putter back to an older putter that I have a little more confidence in and I think I am just getting a little more consistent with placement of the ball and controlling it a little better,” Miller said. “I think mainly it is just confidence.”
The SwingU College Player of the Month is awarded to players from seven divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, HBCU, NCAA Division III, NAIA, NJCAA Division I, and NJCAA Division II – based on a voting committee made up of coaches from their respective divisions.
