Evans Road in Melbourne Set for Closure for Drainage Improvements Beginning in March

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA—The $1.18 million drainage improvement project on Evans Road in Melbourne, originally planned to begin in February, has been delayed until March.

The project will prompt a temporary closure of the roadway at West Hibiscus Boulevard starting in mid-March, with an estimated reopening in August.

This essential upgrade is designed to enhance drainage and roadway infrastructure in this high-traffic corridor, improving community safety and resilience.

The project will replace the existing dual-pipe culvert crossing with a new dual 9′ x 7′ concrete box culvert, along with associated roadway and drainage improvements. Construction is anticipated to take approximately five months to complete.

Clearly marked detour signage will be in place to assist drivers during the closure. The detour routes are as follows:
• Southbound Traffic: Hibiscus Blvd. to Dairy Road to US 192
• Northbound Traffic: US 192 to Dairy Road to Hibiscus Blvd.

Brevard County is collaborating closely with the City of Melbourne and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to minimize impacts to residents, commuters, and businesses. The road is expected to reopen in June as contractors complete the remaining work.

Gregori Construction, Inc. will manage the project, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act at a cost of $1.18 million.
