cleanup aims to tackle pollution along our road network and beaches

BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA — Help make a difference in our local environment by joining the Surfrider Foundation’s Space Coast Chapter for a cleanup at Val M. Steele Park (previously Coconut Point Park) on March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The park is located at 3535 Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway in Melbourne Beach.
This event is part of Surfrider Space Coast’s quarterly cleanup, which aims to tackle pollution along our road network and beaches.
The non-profit organization has officially adopted a stretch of highway along A1A through the Florida Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program.
FDOT offers supplies like trash bags, while the Surfrider chapter provides buckets, grabbers, and reflective vests. When the event concludes, FDOT collects and works to record the type and amount of trash to be used in a database that tracks trash along Florida’s roadways.
This event is just one example of Surfrider Space Coast’s dedication to stopping pollution at its source.
“Regular cleanups like these are a powerful reminder that protecting our ocean starts on land,” said Nina Hunt, chair of Surfrider Space Coast. “Every piece of trash we remove helps prevent pollution from reaching our beaches and waterways.”
Surfrider is a non-profit organization that relies on volunteer support to protect the Space Coast. All are welcome. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, and sun-protective clothing; buckets and grabbers will be provided.
