BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA—The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast recently welcomed a high-level aerospace delegation from Spain’s Basque Country, traveling from Washington, D.C., to explore firsthand the innovation ecosystem that makes our region the launchpad of tomorrow.

The delegation, coordinated by Basque Trade & Investment, represented 11 dynamic aerospace companies and research institutions, including Satlantis, Sener, and Idom.  Their mission was to identify strategic growth opportunities and tap into global networks that accelerate technological advancement.

Their destination was the Space Coast, where cutting-edge research, academic excellence, and industry collaboration converge.

Hosted at the EDC’s offices in Rockledge, the visit brought together a powerful lineup of presenters, including NASA, Lockheed Martin, Rogue Valley Microdevices, and Vaya Space. Topics ranged from business acceleration and spaceport development to advanced manufacturing and hybrid launch solutions—highlighting the real-world partnerships and innovation that define our region.

One recurring theme stood out: Why Florida’s Space Coast? The answers spoke volumes.

“Our skilled talent pipeline is supported by a robust public education system and leading universities like Embry-Riddle, Florida Tech, and UCF,” said Lynda Weatherman, President and CEO, Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast.

“Our exceptional quality of life. Our integrated manufacturing ecosystem and proximity to key suppliers. Add to that a business-friendly climate, affordable real estate, and one of the lowest tax burdens in the nation—recently ranked #4 in the State Tax Climate Index—and it’s clear why global companies are choosing to grow here.”

Delegates also received an exclusive look at UCF’s immersive labs, including the Mixed Emerging Technology Integration Lab (METIL), Virtual and Augmented Reality Lab (VARLAB), and Exolith Lab—where the future of aerospace technology is taking shape.

This visit was one of several high-profile international engagements hosted by the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast in the first quarter of 2025, as European organizations increasingly look to Florida’s Space Coast for partnerships and expansion opportunities.

At the heart of it all is the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast, which aligns public and private stakeholders, champions innovation, and builds an economy that reaches beyond the horizon. For companies ready to launch, expand, or lead the next wave of aerospace innovation, there’s no better place to be.

The future is here–and it’s happening on Florida’s Space Coast.
