TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Two people were killed and six others injured during a shooting at Florida State University on Thursday, according to law enforcement officials.
The incident began around 11:50 a.m. on the university’s Tallahassee campus. Authorities later identified the suspected shooter as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, a student at FSU.
Ikner was taken to a local hospital after being “neutralized” by responding officers. During an afternoon press conference, officials revealed that Ikner used a firearm registered to his mother, Jessica Ikner, a veteran deputy with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
Jessica Ikner has served with the department for over 18 years. Authorities noted she has maintained a strong record during her tenure.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
