While Fernand is not expected to pose a direct threat to Florida, forecasters continue to monitor its movement in the open waters of the Atlantic. Brevard County may experience unsettled weather persists across Central Florida.

The National Weather Service office in Melbourne reports that rain and thunderstorm chances remain above normal, with widespread showers and storms moving eastward across the peninsula and offshore during the late morning and afternoon hours.

The NWS forecast for Brevard County includes the potential for heavy rainfall of one to three inches, along with gusty winds reaching 40 to 45 miles per hour in stronger storms.

Highs for the day are expected to remain slightly below normal, generally in the upper 80’s to low 90’s across the region. Melbourne is forecast to top out near 89 degrees. Heat indices are projected to range from 95 to 102 degrees, with a low to moderate risk of heat-related impacts.

The wet pattern is tied to deep tropical moisture lingering over the area, and while one disturbance in the eastern Caribbean is showing little chance of development over the next week, forecasters caution that the active season warrants continued vigilance.
