BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA –  Melbourne Bulldogs come into their 10th game of the season with a solid 7-2 record, having won four of their last five games. Eau Gallie sits at 4-4 through eight games and has dropped its last two.

Will Melbourne complete the three-game sweep over Eau Gallie this season?

Find out tonight on the Space Coast Daily Facebook and YouTube pages. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Melbourne High School.

Melbourne Bulldogs

The story of Melbourne this season is one of redemption from last year. The team finished 18-10 last season, but so far the Bulldogs appear to be headed for an even better record.

Their hitting and pitching have been stellar over the last five games, and their only loss in that stretch came in a 6-5 defeat to a talented Osceola team.

Melbourne has already defeated Eau Gallie twice this season. The second victory came earlier this week at Eau Gallie in a 4-1 win. Their only notable loss came at the hands of Merritt Island, which has looked like the best baseball team in the county so far this season.

The Bulldogs are led by Bryce Connor, who is batting .429 with four home runs and 11 RBIs through the first nine games — impressive numbers for the sophomore. On the mound, juniors Noah Lopez and Clay MacConnell each hold ERAs under 2.00.

Eau Gallie Commodores

Eau Gallie has not started the season the way it would have liked, sitting at 4-4, but there is a positive takeaway from the uneven start.

The Commodores are 2-0 in district play, and their district record will be crucial for the district tournament and their chances of competing in the FHSAA state playoffs.

It has been an up-and-down start for Eau Gallie, but the bright spot has been senior KJ Jones. Jones is batting .429 with two home runs and eight RBIs. The Commodores also have several pitchers capable of bringing strong performances on the mound.

Jones and the Commodores will need a solid outing to avoid being swept by their cross-town rivals this season.

After tonight’s game, Eau Gallie will face MCC, Bayside, Harmony, and Heritage.

Tune in tonight at 6 p.m. for the first pitch between the Bulldogs and Commodores.
