Brevard Family Partnership ‘Walk for Love’ Saturday

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – In an effort to raise awareness of the many children in Brevard County available for adoption and in recognition of National Adoption Month, Brevard Family Partnership will host its seventh annual “Walk for Love” and inaugural Run for Love 5K, managed by the Running Zone, on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The run starts at 7:30 a.m. followed by the walk which begins at 9 a.m.

The run and walk will begin and end at the sponsoring site, the Church at Viera – 9005 N. Wickham Rd., Viera, with the midpoint at Brevard County Government Center. Over 500 runners, adoptive families, residents from throughout Brevard, business and community leaders, Brevard Family Partnership staff, and child and family service providers are expected to participate.

Registration is required for the run and entry fees are $25 for adults, $22 for students and $20 for children under 12. An awards ceremony immediately following the race will acknowledge top male and female participants in several categories.

Lunch will be provided for all participants upon completion.

This family-friendly event will feature children’s activities, including an obstacle course, snow cones, and face painting. Local adoption service providers will also be on hand to answer questions and provide information about becoming a “forever family” to children available for adoption.

Since 2005, Brevard Family Partnership has helped place over 540 children in “forever homes” with loving families; from July 2011 through June 2012 – the agency’s last fiscal year – BFP placed 71 children. Each year, according to the Administration for Children and Families, more than 129,000 children are available for adoption throughout the U.S.
