PASCO COUNTY, FLORIDA — An altercation between two couples inside a movie theater near Tampa led to a shooting that left one man dead, according to authorities.

The victim of the movie theater shooting, Chad Oulson, was a family man and friend, friends say. The Oulson and his wife was on a date at a matinee when he was shot during an argument over texting at a Wesley Chapel movie theater.

According to Pasco County authorities, the incident at the  Grove 16 theater in Wesley Chapel began when the couple argued with a man who was upset about noises they were making while texting on their cell phones.

During the dispute, the suspect pulled out a .380 handgun and shot the couple. Both victims were transported to a Tampa-area hospital, but Oulson died. His wife suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, Curtis Reeves, 71, is a retired captain with the Tampa police department, according to Bay News 9, who also said Reeves was director of security at Busch Gardens until 2005.

Bay News 9 reported that Reeves was arrested on a charge of second-degree homicide.
