BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Guy Harvey, Ph.D., world-renowned artist, scientist, diver, angler, conservationist and explorer recently donated six of his personal designs to the “Creative Cans in the Sand” initiative.
The designs were unveiled during the Port Canaveral Seafood & Music Festival on February 26-28.
The initiative was born as a love project from Brevard County natives Bobby and Nikki Freeman, who developed a deep desire to protect the Space Coast beaches.
The main goal of this non-profit organization is to encourage beachgoers to dispose of their trash responsibly and by doing so, raise the visibility of the Space Coast as having one of the best beaches in the world and donate any proceeds to benefit local worthy causes.
“Creative Cans in the Sand” has been endorsed by politicians, government officials, prominent businesses and famous artists.
Among those famous artists is Guy Harvey, who shares the same love for the environment and enthusiasm for conservationism, as the Freemans do.
“Creative Cans in the Sand couldn’t be more appreciative of Guy Harvey’s support, donating beautiful artwork for six of our cans,” says founders Bobby and Nikki Freeman.
“We are so excited about all the support from such wonderful people and artists not only from Cocoa Beach but from around the world. It is amazing watching everyone come together for such an important mission, keeping our beaches clean.”
For those who didn’t have a chance to see the cans in display during the festival, they will be installed at the Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach and Cheri Down Park in Cape Canaveral.
“I am delighted that my artwork is being included in the ‘Creative Cans in the Sand’ project,” said Dr. Harvey.
“Marine debris, especially plastics, is having hugely negative impacts on our ocean ecosystem and the first step towards keeping our oceans clean is keeping our beaches clean. ‘Creative Cans in the Sand’ is a great way to encourage beachgoers to dispose of their trash properly.”
