‘Represent The Space Coast’ Hosting Citizen Leader Workshop On “Making Things Right”
By Space Coast Daily // September 23, 2016
Event to be held at Central Brevard Public Library
BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA –Represent the Space Coast, a local chapter of the national nonpartisan anti-corruption movement, Represent.Us, is dedicated to serve the Space Coast community by empowering citizens through education and actions to increase participation in our political system and ensure every voice is heard. All Citizen Leaders Workshops are free and open to the public.
This workshop, “Making things right,” provides information, insight, and examples of exactly how citizens can bring to light an alleged violation of official duties or ethical standards of conduct.
The workshop will give an overview of what one should expect from our government officials and employees, basic processes to launch a complaint.
It will then open up to the panelists’ knowledge, perspectives, and experiences as they answer all questions posed by attendees.
“It can appear that government fails to police itself,” states Melissa Martin of Represent the Space Coast, “and in some cases, it absolutely does.
What we don’t realize is how dependent the current system is on citizen watchdogs. If we don’t keep watch, or if we neglect to say or do anything when we see something wrong, it can and will get bad.”
Represent the Space Coast will work with other chapters across the State of Florida and the nation to implement anti-corruption measures in legislation to reform campaign financing, end dark money and legalized bribery, and return the voice and power of elections and governance to the People.
This is a long journey, but Represent the Space Coast welcomes other concerned citizens to join the effort.
