Brevard County Sheriff’s GAMEOVER Agents Track Down Stabbing Suspect, In Jail On No Bond

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s GAMEOVER agents have arrested 54-year-old Ibrihim Garcia- Hernandez in connection with a stabbing shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday at the Residence Inn Marriot in Cape Canaveral.

According to Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Tod Goodyear, the suspect, who is a transient, was taken into custody earlier today after being located in the area of Lake Drive in Cocoa, by agents from the GAMEOVER Task Force.

Gabriel-Hernandez was arrested after a warrant was issued charging him with Attempted Murder (Domestic Violence) and Aggravated Stalking (Domestic Violence). He was transported to the Brevard County Jail where he is being held on No Bond.

“Deputies responded shortly before 9 a.m. to the Residence Inn Marriot in Cape Canaveral after an emergency 911 call was received advising that a female was found in the parking lot bleeding from a possible stab wound,” said Goodyear in a release.

“Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the 40-year-old victim, who advised that she had been stabbed by a previous boyfriend. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital where she is currently in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.”

According to Goodyear, the investigation has determined that the victim and Garcia-Hernandez were involved in a prior relationship for approximately 10 years. The victim left the relationship in March 2017, moving from Mississippi to Florida to get away from the suspect. Garcia- Hernandez learned that the victim was employed at the Residence Inn Marriot in Cape Canaveral, and travelled to Florida, arriving in Brevard County last night.

“This morning (Thursday), the suspect traveled from Cocoa to Cape Canaveral to confront the victim over issues with their relationship,” said Goodyear.

“The suspect observed the victim outside the hotel and began a conversation with her. During the conversation the victim attempted to make a call on her telephone at which time the suspect took the telephone from the victim, produced a knife, and stabbed the victim. After the stabbing, the suspect ran from the area disposing of the knife and made his way back to the Cocoa area where he was taken into custody. Investigators did recover a knife from a dumpster at a nearby convenience store.”

This investigation is ongoing as members of the Crime Scene and Homicide Units are still collecting evidence and conducting interviews.
