MEDICAL SPOTLIGHT: Dr. Frank Venzara of Florida Retina Specialists Welcomes Dr. David Neely To Practice

Dr. Neely will begin seeing patients August 6
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Dr. Frank Venzara of Florida Retina Specialists announced that Dr. David Neely has joined the practice and will begin seeing patients August 6.
Dr. Neely received his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, followed by an Internship in General Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
He moved on to Ophthalmology Residency at Callahan Eye Hospital at UAB where he served as chief resident and furthered his specialty training with a Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Retina Consultants of Alabama and UAB.
Dr. Neely has co-published many Ophthalmology Research papers and abstracts during his training at UAB as well as participating in resident education to train the next generation of eye surgeons.
He has spent extensive time serving in medical missions in third-world countries in the Caribbean and Central America and continues to visit Nicaragua several times per year performing eye surgeries free of service at the National Center of Ophthalmology in
Managua, Nicaragua.
An active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Retina Specialists, Dr. Neely is fluent in English and conversational Spanish.
“Dr. Neely and Dr. Venzara have performed retina surgery together in Managua, Nicaragua in years past through the “For Nicaraguan Health” mission group,” said Juliet Venzara, Florida Retina Specialists practice administrator.
“They both trained at one of the most surgically intensive Vitreoretinal Fellowship programs in the country.”
Dr. Venzara is a native of Merritt Island, Florida, and received a biomedical engineering degree and medical degree from the University of Miami, and spent a full year performing research at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute where he published articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented his work at multiple national meetings.
He went on to Texas A&M Scott & White Eye Institute where he completed a four-year internship and ophthalmology residency training program and served as chief resident. Following residency, Dr. Venzara completed a two-year surgical retina fellowship at one of the most surgically intensive retina programs in the country.
While at the Retina Consultants of Alabama fellowship program at UAB Callahan Eye Hospital, he performed more than 1,100 retina surgery cases, which is greater than 2.5 times the national average for retina fellows.
Dr. Venzara is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and the Christian Ophthalmology Society.
