Breast Friends Fundraiser for Cancer

BREVARD COUNTY • INDIALANTIC, FLORIDA — Breast cancer survivors, patients, and supporters turned out for the third annual “Joy of Life Luncheon” at the Crown Plaza Indialantic in Indialantic, Florida.

Three hundred attendees enjoyed the inspiring event, which is held each spring to raise awareness of the disease.  A silent auction raised funds for support groups and patient supplies Guest speakers included Paula Kyte and Dee Fisher, who are both cancer survivors.

Those in attendance included Dr. Michael Diaz, Toni Reed, Dr. Emran Imami, Carol Dana, Denwood Parrish, and Breast Friends Co-founder, Connie Chiles-Cooke.

Also in attendance were Gary Pachkoski, Dr. M.J. Castellon, Barbie Braden, Denise Wiley, and Retta Huff, Breast Friends Chairman of the Board.

“Breast Friends has partnered with Health First, and together we offer patients a wedge pillow, a handbook, a special pillow for use when wearing a seatbelt, and other comfort supplies” said Sherry Palmer, Director of Breast Friends of Florida.

Cancer Support Groups

Breast Friends announced three new support groups for breast cancer patients.  “Our new office, located at 1103 Hibiscus Boulevard in Melbourne, gives us the space to host three support groups each month.” said Palmer.

“We have a support group for patients under age 50, another for patients over age 50, and a third support group for those that have recently finished treatment” Palmer said.

Founded in July, 2009, Breast Friends of Florida is an affiliate of the national organization, and is a non-profit 501(c)(3).
