Panthers Earn Second Consecutive Trip Under Head Coach Chris Saltmarsh

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For the second consecutive year under head coach Chris Saltmarsh, Florida Tech has been selected to play in the NCAA Division II Championships.

This trip marks the program’s fourth in its nine-year history.

The Panthers will open the national tournament by competing in the South/Southeast Regional May 7-9 at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.

From that regional, the top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team will advance to the finals May 15-19 at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky.

A total of 20 teams – 10 from the South Region and 10 from the Southeast Region – will compete for the regional tournament title. Joining the teams are eight individuals, four from each region.

Entering Tourney With Momentum

Seven Sunshine State Conference teams, including FIT received an invitation. The other six SSC teams were Barry, Eckerd, Florida Southern, Lynn, conference champion Nova Southeastern and Rollins.

The Panthers are entering the tournament with momentum. This spring, they have placed among the top five in four of their six tournaments and won two, the Matlock Collegiate Classic and the Panther Invitational.

Westhorpe

Christian Westhorpe has finished among the top five in four tournaments since February. Recently, he tied for third at the Florida Blue SSC Championship at seven-over-par. He is averaging a team-best 73.56 strokes per round.
