BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – It’s not hard to figure out why so many people love to get out on the open sea and casting off.

There are so many species of fish available in the Atlantic Ocean and the camaraderie and excitement of “landing the big one” cannot be denied.

To that end, the Sebastian Exchange’s Blue Water Open Charity Offshore Fishing Tournament is coming up June 9 at Capt’n Butchers Waterfront Resort in Sebastian.

For the experienced angler or novice fisherman, the event promises to be fun for the entire family.

Activities begin at 5 p.m. June 8 with registration, followed by the captain’s meeting at 6 p.m.

This year there are terrific raffle items, T-shirt sales and plenty of giveaways.

Tournament fishing begins at 6 a.m. June 9 with the weigh-in running from 2  to 5 p.m.

Participants are eligible to win $14,000 in cash prizes in four fishing categories including dolphin, kingfish, wahoo and grouper, plus a Top Boat prize of $2,000.

There will be an additional 10 places on the bonus board that offers $200 payouts each.

A separate category for Top Tuna is new to the tournament this year and it pays $1,000 to the largest tuna weighed-in.

There also will be non-cash prizes for Top Lady Angler and Junior Angler.

Proceeds from the event will go to charity organizations in the community who foster the welfare of children.

Through this tournament, Sebastian Exchange has raised almost $260,000 over the last 18 years, all of which has been donated to worthy causes.

The Boys & Girls Club, Youth Guidance, Hibiscus Children’s Center, Sebastian Exchange Scholarship Foundation and Exchange Yellow Umbrella have all benefited from this event in the past.

Capt’n Butchers Waterfront Resort is at 1732 Indian River Drive in Sebastian..
