TItans Look Strong Early

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA –Brevard Community College’s golf team held its first day of fall practice on Friday, laying the groundwork for next spring, when head coach Jamie Howell hopes the program will make its 11th trip to the National Junior College (NJCAA) national tournament in the last 11 years.

BCC returns three sophomores — Blake Biggs, Keith Greene and Viera High’s Anthony Skirk — from the team that finished eighth in the national tournament in 2011 and welcomes eight freshmen including Melbourne High’s Nelson Apsey, Kyle Benson, Tyler Howes, Arthur Leonard, Brett Maue, Nicholas Maynard, Garrett Melita and Viera High’s Max Menkes.

“I always look forward to greeting our golf team for the first day of fall practice,” Howell said. “It’s a high energy time of year and seeing the returnees meet and welcome the new players and talk with them about the year to follow, it’s encouraging to see that energy and enthusiasm.

“If we have one message at our first practice it is to take today’s energy and enthusiasm with you and carry it with you daily throughout the year. There will be days when everyone is firing on all cylinders and other days that will try not only their patience but also their confidence. Never give in to the voice that questions your ability will be today’s message.

“We expect nothing but another successful season of BCC golf this coming spring and the fall season will lay the foundation for that success,” Howell said.

BCC opens its six-event fall tournament schedule on Sept. 10 and 11 at the Wallace State Fall Invitational in Cullman, Ala.
