Bonnie Carter Bonita Dies At 70

OBITUARY

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Bonnie J. Carter (Bonita), 70, passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 13, 2013 following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Born October 24, 1942 in Laconia, New Hampshire, she moved to Florida in 1960 where she met her loving husband of 43 years, Jim Carter. In addition to raising her children, Bonnie was involved in many civic activities in her community and touched many lives. She was involved with the Cocoa Jr. Women’s Club, the Guardian Ad Litem program, the Florida Hospital Kidney Transplant Program and the Women’s Center of Melbourne.

Bonnie was an accomplished artist and she expressed her artistic abilities in many different forms of self-expression including stained glass, quilting and most recently as an award-winning water color and mixed medium artist. Bonnie painted extensively with her Painting Partners Group known as the Sisterhood of the Traveling Paintbrush, in addition to working in her home studio.

She was also a member of the Art and Antique Studio Gallery in the Eau Gallie Art District. Her works were featured in many art shows around the state and she was known throughout the art community for her creativity, passion for life and her smile. Bonnie traveled with her husband around the world and much of her art captured the essence and atmosphere of the places and people where they visited.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Armand and Louise Roux. She is survived by her husband Jim; her daughters Karen, Vanessa, son-in-law Bob, son Jeff, brother Fred and her five grandchildren, Jasmine, Jason, Kirstin, Jack and Lauren.

Her memorial service will be held at St. Johns The Evangelist Church, 5655 Stadium Parkway, Melbourne, at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20. Following the service, there will be a Celebration of Her Life at Café Unique in Cocoa Village, 607 Florida Avenue.

Per Bonnie’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care or the American Cancer Society.
