BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – A structure fire was reported just after 9:00 p.m. on Sloan Road in Palm Bay tonight in Palm Bay.

STRUCTURE-FIRE-595-3When firefighters arrived flames were shooting through the roof of the structure.  Neighbors say the residents moved out last week, and one neighbor reported seeing someone break into the structure and set the fire.

An explosion and breaking glass was heard as neighbors called 9-1-1 however it’s not known what caused the explosion. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses on the scene.

Emerson Drive is currently closed between Jupiter Blvd. and Island Dr.

UPDATE: Emerson Drive has been reopened in both directions.

Palm Bay VCOPS are still blocking Sloan Road to vehicle traffic. Palm Bay Police and Fire investigators have interviewed several neighbors who saw suspicious activity just prior to the fire breaking out.

The Palm Bay Fire Marshall has arrived on scene and is starting his initial walk through. The State Fire Marshall’s office has been notified and is en route to the scene. Currently there have been no statements on the investigation.
